When choosing a job, the salary is the most important consideration. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is sometimes argued that job seekers put salary as the most prioritized factor when selecting their job. While I agree that payment is the key consideration to some people, I believe others can make their career decision based on different equally-important criteria.
There are many reasons why people should choose a highly paid job. One reason is that money plays an integral part in enhancing people’s standards of living. High wages allow employees to meet their basic demands such as food and accommodation, and even to afford luxury things. Moreover, competitive payment sustains workers’ motivation and push them to strive harder. For instance, Tet holiday’s rewarding perk is the biggest encouragement for bankers to reach their sales target before the end of lunar year.
On the other hand, searchers might have other requirements beside salary level. First of all, workplace environment and relationship to colleagues might be taken into account. If a person abhorred working in an office, it would be tragic to force him to be a financier or an accountant no matter how high the offered salary is. Secondly, skills, to some job seekers, are much more valuable than earnings. For example, graduates choose to do internship without being paid in order to acquire experiences and career insights.
In conclusion, high salary certainly influences people’s choice of occupation, but it is by no means the most mandatory determinant to all.
