Topic 2: It is better for college students to live far away from home than live at home with their parents. Do you agree or disagree?
Many students have faced with the dilemma of whether to live in a university dormitory or at home with their parents. In my opinion, it is obvious that a dormitory is an obviously better option for most students.
It is said that living with parents is better for students’ s personal development. When students live at home, their parents normally support them in other activities, such as household chores and this has resulted in allowing students to fully concentrate on their academic study. However, it is irrefutable that in this way, they become over-reliant on their parents and they will lose the ability of living independently despite of enough maturation. By contrast, living in dormitory brings significant advantages for young people. There is evidence that they have to take care of themselves in all aspects of life and master vital skills of self-reliant people, ranging from manage their budget in daily expenditure to meal planning and home management, all of which are incredibly essential to foster all-round personal development.
On the other hand, there are several distinct merits of choosing on-campus. Firstly, studying at university, students have to regularly access to library to get sources, work in group with their fellows and participate in social activities. Hence, living in hall of residence enables them to implement all of these. Secondly, those living in student’s residence are exposed to diverse environment with many people from various social and cultural backgrounds. This will benefit better preparation for young people to live in multi-cultural world after graduation.
In conclusion, I completely agree with the view that students should live with their friends instead of their parents.
