Many graduates are struggling to find a job which is related to their training majors these days. Some subjects such as arts, philosophy and history have been taken into account to be optional in university curriculums. In my opinion, while it may be beneficial for students in a long run, those subjects should not be compulsory at university.
The major advantage of studying arts subjects is that it can broaden opportunities to find a true vocation for many people. For example, if one is able to sing well, they could become a well-known artist. The reason is that they are trained at university. At the same time, subjects like philosophy and history may be essential for students who are likely to become future leaders or politicians. For instance, some admirable political leaders graduated as engineers, whereas those have been the greatest leaders in their communities. This is because most of them had ben trained with philosophy and history at university.
However, students should focus on their primary subjects which are vital to find jobs. The reason is that those important subjects will boost knowledge of students, which will be necessary in working environment. Also, by reducing the time to learn arts subjects, students will spend more time for extracurricular activities which play an essential role in improving soft skills and teamwork skills. This is because the skills are really important to become good team players in workplaces.
In conclusion, even though arts subjects may be beneficial for students in a long run, those subjects should be optional to optimize the job opportunities for students.
