In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year
between finishing high school and starting university studies.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decide to do
In some regions, adolescents are inspired to get a job or visit around the world during a gap year. Despite some obvious advantages of this trend, I believe that there are still various disadvantages to teenagers.
On the one hand, there is one major drawback when juveniles go straight to work or travel after high school. Young people who decide to do this, may not return to school to get academic qualification which is very essential in the job market. According to some researches in Oxford university, 60% of individuals from 18-20 year-old who work after high school tend to continue this job instead of going to university. Thus, it will lead to a shortage of high level of educated workers in the labor forces.
On the other hand, this trend has some significant benefits for these individuals. First and foremost, travelling and working absolutely do wonders for broadening their views or enhancing their creative skills. For instance, teenagers could obtain knowledge from exotic cultures by going abroad. As a result, these young people will develop innovative ability which is essential for their future life. Moreover, it is undoubted that adolescents will gain independent and money during working after high school. Thereby, these young people will achieve tremendous goals in university such as getting scholarships or falling into top 1% which is very important for them to get a satisfied job.
In conclusion, it seems evident that taking a gap year has both benefits and damages to young individuals who choose to do this.
