Topic: Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programmes (for example working for a charity, improving the neighborhood or teaching sports to younger children).
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
There are opinions suggesting that high school students should take part in unpaid community service as a school’s compulsory activity. In my point of view, having students work in community service is a great idea as the activity benefits them in many ways.
Apparently, students can obtain a lot from being involved in community work. Firstly, joining community service give students the opportunities to work in group, which is crucial for their development of leadership, including abilities of speech, listening and comprehension as well as experience to cope with different people. Those qualities is very useful in their future careers, because effective teamwork is vital in almost every kind of jobs. Secondly, students can have a considerable number of relationships through community service. People from all walks of life bring the students not only the precious experience and awareness of society but also advices that school cannot teach. Furthermore, having more relationships means being more likely to find a helping hand in case of problems. Thirdly, it is true that high school students usually don’t have a healthy life with harmful habits. By spending time with a charity or community organizations, they will get used to having a proper routine, know how to arrange their time effectively and have better health as they don’t just sitting anymore. Finally, apart from those personal profits, working voluntarily certainly raise students’ love and care for unfortunate people. Besides, they will be more aware of responsibilities, contributing to their development of characteristics. With good individuals, the society will no doubt be better.
In conclusion, I totally agree with the idea and regulations about compulsory community work in high school should be taken to help innovate education.
