Learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It has remained as a source of controversy that whether present living condition can benefit from learning about the past or not. From my point of view, I totally agree with the former opinion.
Firstly, it is obvious that studying about the past raises awareness of responsibility that citizens should have for their countries, which consequently makes people appreciate their present life more. Precisely, history provides learners with knowledge about their countrymen’s patriotism and the struggles their ancestors had to tackle with in order to build up the nation. For example, in Vietnam, learning about the past, which consists of a variety of battles and efforts paid for freedom and independence, Vietnamese at present are enormously motivated with patriotism, which inspired them to make more attempts to protect and develop the country. Consequently, learning about history definitely has a positive impact on present lives.
Secondly, acquiring knowledge about the past apparently creates a concrete foundation for further studying in a large number of fields. To be more specific, learning about the past in a particular field reveals not only the original point, but also the whole process of development, which is exceptionally advantageous for gaining detailed charateristics that can be based on to expand possible researches about this field. For instance, cosmology field requires information back to the origin of time, and georgraphy needs data relating to archeaology which includes analysis about the past. As a result, learning about the past plays a significant role in present life.
In conclusion, as there are a large number of advantages of learning history, I strongly agree that acquisition about the past undoubtedly brings a tremendous value for today life.
