The best way to solve the world’s environmental problems is to increase the cost of
fuels. Do you agree or disagree?
In recent decades, environment problems, such as air pollution and global warming, become more and more serious and finding solutions for these problems become more and more important for governments. In some opinions, increasing fuels cost is believed that it is the most effective ways to resolve environment problems. Although there are several ways to reduce environment issues, I personally argue that increasing fuels cost is the most effective solution.
First, increasing the cost of fuels make industry groups have to reduce the amount of fuels they use. Many environment problems, such as global warming and air pollution, have the same reason is the discharging polluted gas from industries, if the price of fuels is increased, industry groups must decrease the amount of fuels they used to balance finances. For example, a sugar company must reduce the amount of fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, and use sugarcane bagasse, which is a natural source fuel, instead to run their own factories. In the other hand, the amount of fossil fuels in the earth is limited, by reducing the amount of fossil fuels used per a year, people can use the fuel from fossil sources in a longer period. In 2010, a survey of Offord University noticed that own fossil fuels in the earth is just enough for human life until the year of 2100 if we still use fossil fuels with this speed. If we reduce the speed of using fossil fuels two times by using the increasing fuels price solution, we can use fossil fuels source until the year of 2200.
Second, increasing the cost of fuels make industry groups use green sources of energy, which are absolutely better for the environment compare to fossil fuels, as a substituted solution. In recent years, the improvement of green energy sources, such as solar energy and wind energy, become more and more faster but they also have their own downside as their high price. So, companies tend to use fossil fuels, which have lower cost, to increase their own income. If the cost of fossil fuels is increased, industry company may choose green energy sources as a solution. For example, if a sugar company can choose to use electric of wind energy source instead of using oil and coal, they just spend a little bit higher price for energy cost and they also have the support of environment activists to advertise their company. In the other hand, the trend of using green energy sources also play the role of catalyst on the improvement of green energy industries. For instance, if companies tend to green energy sources, they can help scientists, who carry out their own jobs on finding for better and cheaper green energies, have more funding to perform their research and human world may have a better chance to find substituted energies for fossil fuels in the future.
In conclusion, I totally agree with the opinion of increasing the cost of fuels to reduce environment problems. By increasing the cost of fuels, the amount of polluted gas discharged will be decreased significantly and the improvement of green energies is also supported.
