    16. (29/04/2017) Task 2: Some people say that what children watch influences their behaviour. Others believe the amount of time they spend on television influences their behaviour most. Discuss both view and give your opinion.
In the recent years, watching television has become more and more prevalent among children. Whether the amount of time they spend on this hobby or contents of TV programs influences children’s behavior remains a source of controversy. From my perspective, I would argue that the contents showed will overshadow the development of children.
On the one hand, there are several disadvantages when children spend a huge amount of time on this entertainment. To begin with, when being addicted to television, students tend to become lazy and lack movement, which causes the couch-potato syndrome. As consequence, this is likely to afflict reflex reaction and physical well-being because of lack of outdoor activities. Furthermore, excessive TV watching will put children’s health in jeopardy and they are easy to suffer from heart and respiratory diseases. To top it off, when kids become over-reliant on television, they can isolate themselves from cordial connection with their friends, which may hinder their social skills.
On the other hand, it seems to me that the information conveyed through TV channels absolutely brings remarkable influences on children’s behaviors. Firstly, after watching violent scenes of bloodshed, guns, and fighting, the young may try to mimic these actions in their real lives, and adopt unhealthy habits and improper behavior. For example, according to statistics, the rate of pupils who bully their friends viciously is increasing alarmingly. In addition, there is a wide range of attractive advertisements that encourage children eating junk food, and smoking. Due to appealing commercial images, young viewers are willing to utilize those products, which definitely jeopardizes their mental development.
In conclusion, both factors are a culprit of degradation of children’s development, however, the disadvantages of elements shown on the TV are greater.
