Some people think that a sense of competition in children should be encouraged. Others believe that children who are taught to co-operate rather than compete become more useful adults.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Most people have different views about whether youngsters should be competitive or co-operative individuals to mature greatly in the future. While a spirit of competition can be useful of live, I do believe that co-operation plays a more important role.
On the one hand, it is noticeable that the biggest motivation to work or study is competitive. For example, in schools, teachers sometimes will hold games or quizes between lessons to encourage the learning ability of children. To become a winner or get rewards, these pupils have to outdo the remaining their friends in the class, and which leads more and more graders to acquire harder. This kind of healthy rivalry also may help build children’s self-confidence, while pushing them to work independently and progress more quickly. After graduation, clearly, students having the confidence and determination can find a well-paid job easily. Therefore, some people suppose that competition should be encouraged to prepare children for mature life.
On the other hand, there are more benefits in co-operation. In professionally working environment, adults are expected to work in teams, follow instructions given by their superiors, or supervise and support other junior staff. Team collaboration skills are much more useful than a competive determination to win. Consequently, the schools should focus on how to teach children teamwork skill, instead of promoting the idea that people are either winners or losers.
In conclusion, the above opinions each have its certain advantages, but with my experience that a co-operative attitude is much more desirable than competitiveness in adult life.
