BÀI 1: Many people say that we now live in ‘consumer societies’ where money and possessions are given too much importance, and leading to some consequences. Others believe that consumer culture has played a vital role in improving our lives. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Nowadays, an increasing number of people are concerned about our overwhelming consumption. Wether the consumer culture plays an integral parts or brings to us some negative effects is a controversial issue. While I believe that it holds an important role in our life, I still argue that it also has some negative aspects.
On the one hand, a soar in comsumption proportion will boost the nation’s economy. Because when the number of customers sharply rises, this will create a demand for more products, which makes not only trading activities become more developed but also economic market strongly act. Furthermore, the consumer culture also motivates companies to develop their creation and earn profits. Indeed, a handful of enterprises have to compete agaisnt one another in the national trade if they want their corporations to still operate. To be one of the leading brands, they must possess creative advertisements and attract the consumers, so that people will expense their money on companies’ merchandise.
On the other hand, wasting the natural resources and money are the results of increasing consumption in recent years. In fact, almost all firms only show the postive angles of their products, which makes the customers be attracted and not concerned about the negative ones. Besides, it is undeniable that the production of merchandise demands a huge amount of natural materials. Consequently, the consumer culture will reduce the natural resources and be money-wasting.
In conclusion, it is true that consumer culture plays a critical role, but this is by no means the key to guarantee a good quality of our life.
