The chart provides comparative information on the changing trend in the number of tones carbon dioxide emissions used individually in four countries from 1967 to 2007

It is clear from the data that people in the United Kingdom released the highest CO2 emissions throughout the period shown. Although the figure for the UK and Sweden decreased over the period, there was an upward trend in the amount of those in Italy and Portugal.

Looking at more details, it can be seen from the graph that in 1967, the number of CO2 emissions in metric tones in the UK was the largest, at approximately 11 tonnes. The figure for Sweden and Italy were lower, at nearly 9 tonnes and 4,5 tonnes respectively. However, Portugal accounted for the lowest number with only about 1 ton emitted.

In the period between 1967 and 2007, the UK witnessed a slight fall to around 9 tonnes in the release of CO2 per person. In contrast, a significant increase in the figure for Italy was reported, at nearly 8 tonnes. Although the average CO2 emissions in each Italian reached a peak of about 10,5 tonnes in 1977, this dropped steadily to just 5,5 tonnes, which was exactly the figure for Portugal at the end of the period after experiencing an upward trend.
