Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause
serious social problems, as well as practical problems. To what extent do
you agree or disagree with this statement?

It is true that people will encounter various problems ranging from
language barrier to culture shock when relocating to a nation where their
mother tongue is not the official language. While I agree that this will
definitely cause some issues at the beginning, I personally believe that
those problems will become norms once foreigners adapt to that environment.

It is inevitable that migrants still suffer from numerous troubles due to
language barrier, even if they possess a high level of language proficiency
during their first days in overseas. Native people tend to use a lot of
slangs, idioms in daily conversation which foreigners cannot fully
understand. Moreover, the pace of speech of local people is relatively
quicker than the speed second language speakers got used to when they were
practicing at home. However, I suppose that expatriates, international
students, or even migrated senior citizens would comprehend effectively
after they have lived in that country long enough. It is because they would
have a lot of opportunities to communicate with native speakers, stay
informed about current affairs by watching local news channels on a daily
      basis.

Culture shock is another obstacle which challenges foreigners. For
instance, shaking hand with Arabic people by the left hand is considered
extremely impolite, so aliens might be offended by such action. In fact,
people can easily avoid such awkward situations by studying carefully about
that culture before relocating. The advent of the modern technology and the
Internet gives them a wealth of information about that subject if they are
conscious. Moreover, the upcoming fascinating experience to explore new
culture always stimulates people to do so.

In conclusion, having a chance to live in another country and explore new
culture always amazes people. Challenges such as misunderstandings of
language, different lifestyles are just minor obstacles which we can easily
overcome, and then excite to expand our horizons.
