The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The given line graph illustrates the average number of carbon dioxide which a person emitted on average in four different countries.
Overall, there were a downward trend in the UK and Sweden and an upward trend in the remaining nations. However, the mean amount of carbon dioxide released in the UK was still highest while the figure of that in Portugal was lowest.
To be specific, a UK person accounted for nearly 11 metric tonnes carbon dioxide emissions in 1967. Then, the number gradually fell to about 9 in 2007. Unlike UK, in 1977, the exhaust fume was released more, from over 8 to over 10 metric tonnes and then, in 2007, its quantity went down dramatically to approximately 5.5.
On the contrary, average carbon dioxide emissions in both Sweden and Portugal increased at the similar rate with about four units’ difference over 40 years. Although a Swedish person discarded carbon dioxide almost 4 times than a Portuguese person did in 1967, the average numbers in these two countries were the same roughly 7.5 metric tonnes.
