Idioms từ 10 loại đồ ăn giúp cải thiện band điểm nói (P1)

Thành ngữ là những câu nói trong tiếng anh mà gần như không thể giải thích chỉ dựa trên nghĩa đen của từ ngữ mà đòi hỏi người nói phải hiểu và truyền tải được nghĩa bóng của câu. Cũng giống như tiếng việt, việc dùng được thành ngữ thể hiện trình độ nói cao hơn. Vậy nên, các thí sinh IELTS nên chuẩn bị cho bài thi IELTS Speaking bằng cách học những cụm này ngay để lấy được band 7.5+ hoặc cao hơn!

Còn gì bằng nếu có thể học được những thành ngữ có chứa đồ ăn nhỉ!! Vừa ấn tượng dễ nhớ vừa có tính hiệu quả nữa. Cùng xem nào!

1. Cheese

A big cheese: Người nắm giữ quyền lực

Ví dụ: “Apparently her father is a big cheese in one of the major banks.”

Different as chalk and cheese: Rất khác nhau

Ví dụ: Australia & US are like chalk and cheese.

Cheese and kisses: Người vợ

Ví dụ: The cheese and kisses and I will go on a holiday to Canada this month.

2. Tea

(Just/not) one’s cup of tea: Là điều yêu thích của ai

Ví dụ: Playing football is just my cup of tea.

A storm in a teapot: Sự làm quá mọi chuyện lên

Ví dụ: I really think you’re making a storm in a teapot over this. It’s just a tiny scratch on the car!

Tea Party: Việc gì đó dễ dàng, nhẹ nhàng, dễ chịu

Ví dụ: The test was a real tea party. No sweat.

3. Banana

One-banana problem: Vấn đề nhỏ bé, không quan trọng

Ví dụ: It’s only a one-banana problem at the most; even kids can solve it. I can’t understand why people get stuck there.

Going bananas: Phát điên

Ví dụ: I will go bananas if you still acts like this.

A banana skin : Vấn đề nhạy cảm

Ví dụ: The new tax has proved to be a banana skin for the government.

4. Apples

Apples and Oranges: Hoàn toàn khác nhau

Ví dụ: We can’t compare inner city hospitals and hospitals on the outskirts – they’re apples and oranges.

The apple of sb’s eye: Là người yêu quý của ai đó

Ví dụ: His youngest daughter was the apple of his eye.

Upset the apple cart: Làm rối tung mọi chuyện lên

Ví dụ: I always knew he’d tell secrets and upset the apple cart.

A bad/rotten apple: Con sâu làm rầu nồi canh

Ví dụ: In every organization, you can find a bad apple who can damage their prestige.

Put something in apple-pie order: Sắp xếp mọi việc hoàn hảo, có trật tự

Ví dụ: I’ve put my entire life into apple-pie order.

5. Pie

Eat humble pie: Thừa nhận sai và xin lỗi

Ví dụ: I will not break my promise to eat humble pie and admit that I have made a mistake if you can prove it.

Piece of the pie: Một phần của thứ gì đó

Ví dụ: The business owner wanted all of his employees to have a piece of the pie, so he gave them all stock in the company as a holiday bonus.

(as) easy as pie: Rất dễ dàng

Ví dụ: You make everything sound as easy as pie, George.

Pie in the sky: Điều khó thành hiện thực, chuyện viễn vông

Ví dụ: Those plans of hers to set up & run her own business are just pie in the sky.
