Some people think that it is more important for government to spend public money on promoting a healthy lifestyle in oder to prevent illness than to spend it on the treatment of people who are ready ill. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Nowadays, obesity and noncommunicable disease put a big financial burden on healthcare system in many parts of the world. Therefore, many people believe that supporting people to follow a healthy lifestyle is extremely necessary rather than pouring money into these disease treatment while some people are against this attitude. I personally agree partly with this viewpoint for some reasons.
There are a variety of reasons why I am in favour of the idea that encouraging citizens to have healthy life is beneficial. Firstly, healthy lifestyle are things such as doing exercise frequently, eating healthy food, living without alcohol and cigarettes. To be more specific, it is obvious that drinking alcohol, smoking and eating bad foods could result in many disease such as obesity, heart disease, stroke, etc which have a bad influence on not only individuals but also society as a whole. In terms of personal perspective, people would have to suffer painful and uncomfortable treatments in later life and it is difficult for them to enjoy the happiness of life in their future. For society perspective, the cost for these treatment is really prohibitive and if the government still have to pour the large amount of its budget into medical treatments, other vital sections such as education, road, infastructures and so on would not be funded properly so that the whole society will be affected negatively.
However, I believed that it is necessary to spend money on treating people who have these diseases. To begin with, these residents have to work hard and pay many kinds of taxes, including income taxes, property taxes and other taxes, hence, they must be received the benefits from the government and medical treatment is one of them. Secondly, promoting healthy lifestyle is a long-term intervention so there could not show obvious results in the near future. In other words, it is extremely unmoral if government do not allocate their money on treatment for people who are in need and deserve to receive them.
In conclusion, I firmly argue that it is crucial for authority and government to allocate their budget into both section in a proper way.
