Smokers can cause themselves serious health problems. The choice to smoke is made freely and with knowledge of dangers. Smokers should, therefore, expect to pay more for medical treatment than non-smokers.
Smoking is one of the biggest causes of death and illness in many countries in the world. Although it has been understood by most smokers and warnings are always available on a packet of cigarettes the they still ignore to buy. Yet, I strongly disagree that smokers must bear higher healthcare expenses than non-smokers.
Smoking has been scientifically proven to damage every organ of smokers’ body and might cause serious diseases such as lung, mouth, lips, throat, and stomach cancers and so on. However, smokers’ illnesses may also be resulted to by other causes. Therefore, it is unfair to force smokers to pay higher than others for their medical treatments. Car accidents for an example where the injury is due to the carelessness of drivers without the relationship of smoking. People in this case should be treated equally.
On the other hand, we need to deeply understand why smokers have to spend more money on healthcare. The aim is to punish them and then wish to reduce smoking. Extra payments have been made when purchasing tobacco products because of the higher tax. It means that customers have to pay more for their habit. Hence, it seems less fair for them to pay more for their medical bill. Moreover, people should be aware the harmful effects of smoking and responsible for their behaviors themselves because the health is the greatest asset we have in the lives.
In conclusion, people who smoke cigarettes are at the higher risks of many particular illnesses than non-smoker, but it is hard to require that smokers must pay more their medical treatment. I strongly suggest that people must not use cigarettes for their health themselves and other people who suffer from passive smoking.Attachments:
