Nowadays, parents have a tendency to send their kids to primary schools in which teach foreign language. Meanwhile, some people believe that it is better for their kids studying a foreign language when they are at the age around 12. There are pros and cons I will mention in the essay below.
On the one hand, there are many suitable reasons which show advantages of beginning studying language when people are at the prime age. Firstly, kids have better ability to copy attitude from adults. Therefore, it is easier for them to improve skills in pronunciation and body language. Secondly, young children are not shy when they practice speaking to each other. They are also curious so that they could not hesitate to ask their teacher about new things. Consequently, they can acquire vocabularies and grammar as well as they use foreign language as a native language. Moreover, learning other language with useful class-activities develops children’s intelligence and creation, such as face to face conversation, solo presentation or some brainstorming game. A good example is that almost Vietnamese young people nowadays are active and confident in communicating with foreigners. It results from the fact that they have been taught English since they were in either primary school or kindergarten.
On the other hand, children learning foreign language early still face disadvantages. Kids at 4 or 5 years old may be not mastered in native language if they have to study tongue language and foreign one at the same time. Moreover, spending much time for learning will surely reduce their fun time to enjoy entertaining and relaxing. This problem increases when kids have to learn more than two languages. For instance, Malaysian parents have tendency to let their offsprings learn Malaysian, Chinese and English when they are in prime level. They also try to study main courses in school such as mathematics, literature, biology. Almost kids become bookworms and unfriendly in community. However, these disadvantages can be reduced if parents choose the right way in educating children.
In conclusion, it is good for children start learning foreign language at around 5 years old. Nevertheless, parents should choose high qualified primary schools having right method with each age, as well as reasonably balance timetable for their children.
