Schools are spending more time teaching traditional subjects such as history. Some people think that they should rather spend more time in teaching skills that can help students find a job. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It has long been perceived that the education should be the lighthouse for students in their life. Hence, some people hold the view that schools need to spend more time on teaching soft skills in order to help them find a job and less hours should be spent on traditional subjects. I just agree with this idea to some extent.

To start with, it is generally held that history or culture is the fundamental of human being so it is undeniable that students still need to acknowledge their historic lessons in school. As a matter of fact, having the ability to understand one’s background help them to understand the world around them. Therefore, it would be easier to adapt in working environment. Another merit to take into account is the fact that many traditional subjects such as math or physics are extremely useful in the future job. If a student wants to be an accountant or scientist, they need to learn math and build logical thinking from these kind of subjects. Hence, had it not been for the knowledge of these traditional subjects, students would not be able to work well in their jobs.

However, it is even more convincing with the idea of teaching skills that student need to meet the requirements of their future jobs. It is generally agreed that the ultimate goal of teaching is helping student to become a good citizen and contribute their work for the society. Therefore, learning some helpful skills such as critical thinking, communication, designing is crucial for students to work effectively. Moreover, one primary advantage of this trend is that having different soft skills while in high school can save students a lot more time. In some cases, students have to work another 2 to 3 years to earn experiences and essential skills. But now, thanks to lessons in school, they can graduate and fit in any circumstance immediately.

On the whole, despite some difficulties and risks that students may face when teaching soft skills is required in school, this idea is extremely outstanding and need to considerate thoroughly.
