Some people argue that immigrants should adopt the local culture when immigrating to a new country. An alternative view is that they can adapt to a new environment by establishing a minority community. Discuss these two views and give your opinion.
The globalization has been allowing people from different nations to break the boundary reach to far-off destination and become a global citizen. Immigration is no longer a new issue with modern people but the way that immigrants behave in a new cultural environment is a controversial issue. While there are several persuasive reasons for each choice, I think that when moving to a new environment, people should learn to get on well with the local as well as keep the quintessential, unique features of their tradition.
On the one hand, it is undoubtedly true that the fastest way to become a part of a community is to do what others is doing. Each environment has its own etiquettes and a newbie should follow them as a proper attitude to show their respect to the main land people. Additionally, going abroad is the time people broaden their mind with totally new knowledge and experiences and they only can achieve their targets when getting on well with others. Creating a good relationship with the locals will help them to aware of unwritten rules thus avoid certain problems and mistakes.
On the other hand, while becoming a cultural chameleon, immigrants should bear in mind where they come from. The migrating trends and the solidarity of people from the same country have led to the establishment of minority communitíe in foreign countries which lately becomes special visiting points. In these places, structures and decorations are designed based on their homeland culture, providing traditional food and other stuffs to visitors and organizing special traditional festivals. The most significant of this operation are people can protect each other from racists and hidden dangers while introducing the beauty of their culture worldwide. However the lack of managing ability could make these places become the home of crime and illegal activities.
In conclusion, the way that immigrants adapt to a new environment is mixed based on the features of their arriving countries. There are certain pros and cons for each way but I am in the side of the neutral way – learning the local etiquettes but still save good traditional characteristics.Attachments:
