Art classes such as painting or drawing are important for children’s development, so it should be compulsory in high school. Do you agree or disagree?
Some people claim that art classes such as painting or drawing should be obligatory in high school curriculum. While it is true that these classes can be beneficial for students to some extent, I would argue that it should not be compulsory.
To begin with, art education can bring about certain benefits to high school students. Firstly, since there are no rules in art, studying this subject would allow students to practice thinking creatively. Consequently, this could help them tremendously with the future jobs that require great creativity such as marketing, graphic designer or photographer. If students only concentrate on Math or Literature, it is likely that their creativity is not as good as that of ones exposing to art at a young age. Secondly, a great number of students usually experience stress when studying academic subjects like Literature and History. Therefore, introducing art into the educational program might reduce the pressure that students have to cope with.
However, I do not think that all students studying in high schools should be forced to participate in art classes. While some students find art extremely fascinating, there are ones that this subject fails to arouse their interests. As a result, these students would not pay attention in art classes and receive poor marks, which might lead to a drop in their grade point average. Another reason is that art supplies cost a great deal of money. Children whose parents do not have good financial conditions may struggle to afford drawing materials such as sketchbooks, crayons, and water color. If children are not required to study art, their parents could spend money on other essential daily needs.
In conclusion, although I recognize that art education does play a crucial role in children’s development, I strongly believe that studying this subject should only be optional.Attachments:
