Recently, cross-countries corporations has been gaining popularity. From my perspective, I advocate to the idea that since global companies make use of local resources and their production has adverse impact on environment, it is necessary for them to embrace social responsibility in their business destinations.
On the one hand, establishment of overseas companies has already made a significant contribution to indigenous society. First and foremost, that offices and branches of huge international enterprises is set up offers a number of job opportunities to local residents generally with higher payments and better work conditions. As a result, that not only assists these workers to earn a living but also triggers the prosperity of their locality. To illustrate, SamSung factory in Thai Nguyen province creates well-paid jobs for thousands of Vietnamese people, even high school educated laborers. Furthermore, the more profit do multi-national firms gain, the more taxes can local governments collect; subsequently, further public services and social welfare can be improved for the sake of the local’s well-beings.
On the other hand, foreign corporates have to take charge of environmental deterioration caused by their production activities and join hands to address socital issues as a part of society. To commence with, nowadays, the manufacturing operation of plants and factories possessed by international groups has been taking tolls on the environment in developing countries. Formosa steel plant in Vietnam, for example, caused toxic spill that resulted in mass fish deaths. Therefore, these companies have a obligation to not only compensate the damage but also install waste treatment systems. Additionally, it is the responsibility of anyone to make the community they are living better through philanthropic actions or efforts to alleviate povety; and cross-border corporates are not exceptional.
In conclusion, I am of the opinion that global businesses need to pay heed to their social responsbility at places where they implement business.
