The diagram illustrates the fertility rate of UK and how it changes in term of 6 different ages in 1938 and 2008.
Overall, 35 to 39 year old females registered the highest birth rate over the period shown. This time witnessed a soar in the figure for women aged under 20 but a dramatic decline in that of 30 to 35 year – old.

By 1973, the UK saw an insignificant minority of 40 and above females birth rate ( 10% ). 35 – 39 women had the highest proportion in this time, roughly over 80%. This figure nearly doubled the 20-25 females, which had a little less than 40% birth rate. Besides, 30-35 females’ birth rate is 70%, compared to nearly 60% of 25-30 females and about 35% of under 20 females.

Over the period of 35 years, in spite of some dramatic declines, the percentage of 35-39 year-old females who gave birth was still largest, at under 70% in 2008, compared to a dive of over 30% in 30-35 age group. In contrast, fertility rates of 25-30 and under 20 groups increased moderately and significantly to 65% and 60% respectively. The proportions of females aged 20-25 and 40 or more giving childbirth were generally static at about 35% and 10% correspondingly.
