Some people believe that if a police force carries guns, this encourages higher level of violence in that society.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
The question whether police officers should carry guns or not has drawn much attention from the public. From my perspective, not all policemen should be routinely armed because this certainly leads to the growing violence in society
The widespread use of guns among the police may lead to severe consequences. First and foremost, since offenders know that the police force is allowed to carry guns, they will also equip themselves with more powerful weapons for self defence. This could provoke massacres which certainly results in a violent society. In addition, there is a risk of accidents and mistakes if the police use guns to tackle criminals in crowded places. The security force may unintentionally harm innocent persons and arouse nervous atmosphere over the whole city. For example, in 2016, a gunfight on the street between a police force and drug dealers in Mexico left at least 42 unwanted deaths. Consequently, this only lead to resentment amongst civils, who would feel that their survival was underestimated.
Therefore, I would argue that there are better methods to ensure the stability of society instead of allowing police officers bring along guns. The first one is to only allow special police units use guns who always have to catch armed offenders. This helps the security force protect the public effectively without breeding violence among society. Another solution is to use other alternatives to guns such as electric shock or tear gas. These weapons’ effects are not fatal like firearm so they are safe to the public, therefore, unintentional deaths could be reduced.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that the use of guns needs to be limited due to the rising level of violence and unintentional consequences.
