Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programmes (for example working for a charity, improving the neighborhood or teaching sports to younger children)
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Most high schools provide great programmes to help the community such as working for a charity, improving the quality of life for the poor or teaching sports to younger children. For me, I disagree with the statement that high school students are forced to take part in community service without being paid.
Not every student has enough time to participate in those programmes. The main and only reason is that they have a lot of work to take care of throughout a school year like doing research, experiment or preparing for exams. Spending time on community service may prevent them from concentrating on other compulsory subjects regarding to their academic areas. As a result, it leads to bad performance among students and low scores in final tests. Other reason is that doing these activities without being paid, for some pupils, is a waste of time, so instead of that, they want to do something which benefits them first.
On the other hand, it will be better if the schools consider doing community work as an optional part for students. In other words, teenagers can choose to join depending on their personal interests. There are no pressures that happen to occur if they cannot take part in community activities, and with those who can manage the time for the programmes, they don’t have to worry about getting negative assessments or bad grades. Furthermore, this voluntary action brings harmonious atmosphere among pupils because they do not have any reasons to compete with each other. Therefore, teenagers are able to learn new things and have fun through helping others without worries.
In conclusion, I believe that high schools students will enjoy doing community service if they are not obliged to do it, which leads to positive attitudes and practical results among them.
