Maintaining public libraries is a waste of money since there is computer technology. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is suggested that government-backed libraries are currently inconsequential in the modern era of technology. The expenditure on maintaining them is not necessary because we are living in the world of technological revolution. In my opinion, governmental – funded libraries play an irreplaceable role in the life.
Technological development brings human to a new century. It allows everyone immediate access to an abundance of information and data. With the click of button, computer technology is able to satisfy the question for knowledge of readers beyond the constraint of location. For example, a Vietnamese law student makes thorough research on the UK’s court system and she can get access to website of Supreme Court or website of UK government for reference. In addition, with the assistance of computer technology, people can find their favourite book in a satisfactory and convenient way. Rather than spending several days at the library, a person easily finds information in the blink of an eye.
In spite of being advantageous, government-backed library plays an irreplaceable role, especially for book hunters. Firstly, it promotes the healthy habit of reading in the context that we are living in the knowledge economy and are integrating into globalization. Secondly, for those people having a disadvantaged background, public libraries are valuable information sources as they go around the library and chose the favourite books. Furthermore, the library consists of a great deal of authenticated and reliable information which meets strict demands for data accuracy.
In conclusion, I am of the opinion that while computer technology offers convenient access, attaining public libraries resumes an unmatched role.
