The line chart illustrates the amount of products delivered in England from 1974 to 2002 by four different kinds of transportation.

Overall, the primary means of transport was on road. While the amount of goods going via trains slightly fluctuated, there were significant increases in the quantities of goods transported by the other modes.

In 1974, started at approximately 70 million tonnes, the amount of products sent on the streets rose noticeably to somewhere in the vicinity of 100 million in 2002. Similarly, the amount of merchandise delivered by boats climbed dramatically from just below 40 to more than 60 million tonnes. Began at the lowest point, pipeline saw a substantial rise by 20 million tonnes during the whole period.

On the other hand, 40 million tonnes of goods were shipped by rail in 1974 and these numbers decreased steadily to 30 million in the 1980s. After that, this figure lightly fluctuated and increased again to what it was in the beginning of the period.

      Hi friends,

According to the Cambridge dictionary, the word “means” is always in plural.
There is an example on that page: “Television is an increasingly important means of communication”.

So, I think it is correct to say
“Overall, the primary means of transport was on road”.

Could you please review the correction and share your thoughts?

      Thank you.

      Hi friends,

It seems like my question has been replied, but I cannot see the answer (due to some permission restriction?). I saw a notification saying that I received a reply, but when I opened this page, the last post I can see is my question.

      Could you please help me?

      Thank you.
