In order to solve traffic problems, governments should tax private car owners heavily and use the money to improve public transportation. What are the advantages and disadvantages of such a solution?

People have a suggestion to levy high taxes on car owners to mitigate the traffic problems. This essay will figure out the benefits and drawbacks of this measure.
To begin with, putting high taxes on car users have some certain benefits. Firstly, heavy taxes which will increase prices of cars can help to discourage the customers’ demands of buying cars, and therefore decrease the traffic jams and traffic accidents. Secondly, less people use car means less amount of fossil fuels used and less polluted fumes produced into the air that can protect natural resources and environment respectively. Finally, high taxes put on cars can bring about more income to the national budget and the government has more finances to improve the infrastructure to support their people’s lives.
However, we can see some negative impacts from giving heavy taxes on car owners. This measure can cause inequality between the rich and the poor. For example: the rich can afford many cars for travelling and they can pay for any costs or fees in order to commute by cars while the poor cannot buy any car due to its high prices even though they have real need of travelling. Besides, in rural areas while the roads are spacious and environment is clean, the traffic problems are not as serious as in the urban areas, and such measure will deplete the personal travelling.
To deal with the traffic problems, putting high taxes on cars is a feasible solution. However, we can see that there are some benefits and negative impacts of such a measure.
