Some people think that the best way to reduce crime is to give longer prison sentences. Others, however, believe that there are better alternative ways of reducing crime. Discuss both views and give your own opinions?

A fierce debate has been provoked if longer imprisonment is the optimal approach to alleviate the significant crime rates in this day and age. Nonetheless, there is no shortage of critics who opine that a myriad of better alternative resolutions is not unearthed yet. This essays will depict two sides of the statement before presenting my final conclusion.

To commence with, that being convicted in jail for a long
time has a positive impact on offenders is transparent. Not only does this punishment cheat the offenders out of their freedom, but it also deprives them of living with their families, and in fact, these abstract treasures are of paramount importance to human life. Besides, lengthy rehabilitation in prison gives the inmates time to rethink about their delinquencies as well as practice their vocational training. Therefore, this deterrent punishment is a wake-up call towards felons, on the grounds that they are afraid of losing their precious things in life. Consequently, they are unlikely to re-offend since they can have job opportunities after being released from prisons.

On the other hand, efficient as that lengthy imprisonment is, this measurement can solely tackle crime problems impermanently. Hence, for long-term effects purposes, the governments had better eradicate the original motives of the culprits. In a bigger picture, poverty, poor education, sinful family background and famine act as a principal catalyst for shaping a low code of behaviors, which in turn creates lawbreakers who pose a threat to the society with a view to maintaining their livelihood. As a consequence, it is mandatory that the authority to provide a colossal amount of social welfare and remarkable subsidies for underprivileged citizens.
