Question: Some people think that in order to continue improving the quality of high school education, students should be encouraged to evaluate and criticize their teachers, while others assume this could result in the loss of respect and discipline in the classroom. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Finding out the solutions to enhance the quality of high school education is always one of the top priorities in every educational institution. Several people argue that students’ assessing and criticizing their teachers should be promoted, but i think that this can cause students to lose veneration and discipline to teachers in every lesson.

On the one hand, expressing their thoughts and feelings to teachers could contribute significantly to improving the quality of education. In many cases, students are not able to understand because teachers say too fast, thanks to learners’ interaction, teachers can adjust their speeds and methods to help them ensure the content of the lesson. Through students’ responses to teachers, it is likely that they could boost their theoretical thinking and increase their judgment. Besides, when some wrong information cannot be found in carelessly preparing the lessons of teachers, feedback of learners helps them know the mistakes and fix them.

On the other hand, there are several drawbacks of giving students the freedom of evaluating their teachers. Firstly, teachers can be vulnerable due to being given negative words of students. For instance, students make some wrong answers in Math, but it is insisted that they are right, this can begin controversial issues and lead to criticising their teachers. Secondly, it can cause chaos in classrooms because of the massive amounts of comments. Feedbacks are mainly derived from learners, which will make teachers have difficulties in finding the ways to satisfy their students.

In conclusion, with the above-mentioned things, it seems evident that although assessing the teachers can be popularized with the aim of improving the quality of high school education, it also has negative influences on students’ attitudes and teachers’ feelings.
