Prison is the common way in most countries to solve the problem of crime. However, a more effective solution is to provide with a better education. Agree or disagree.
Many people believe that an effective measure to address the problem of crime rate is the providing of better education rather than prison sentences. I do disagree with this view since I consider that both approaches have their own distinctive merits, and each plays an integral part in tackling crime.
On the one hand, there are a number of reasons why prison helps to deal with the crime rate. The first reason is that people recognise that they will have consequences if they commit a crime, and a punishment acts a deterrent. For example, as breaking the law, people could face the loss of freedom, social isolation, and separation from loved ones. As a result, they will throughly consider as they wish to carry out unlawful actions. Another reason is that the community will be safer as serious offenders are behind bars. Therefore, citizens could walk in the streets or relax in their homes safely without worry about murderers or killers.
On the other hand, education plays a complementary role in the reduction of crime. Firstly, if youngers are better prepared with some knowledge about the aspect of the laws, they will not involve in criminal activities. For instance, in shools, students should be studied about the important laws such as safe road or driving so that they do not commit a crime about traffic laws. Secondly, in prisons themselves, prisoners ought to be provided with significant skills or qualifications through educational programmes in order to seek a work as they are released. Consequently, with a stable job, they will carry out a criminal act to make end meets.
In conclusion, although education is the good way to tackle the crime rate, I strongly believe that this is not better than educational approach as both measures have their own unique advantages.
