Topic 14 (IP): Studies show that many criminals have a low level of education. For this reason, people believe that the best way to reduce crime is to educate people in prison so they can get a job when they leave prison. Do you agree or disagree?
In today’s world, the rate of crimes has been increasing, so looking for a feasible solution to deal with this problem has become a heated debate in the community. It is argued that educating prisoners who could have jobs after prison sentences is the best way to alleviate criminals. Personally, I partly agree with this view.
I accept that education for prisoners may contribute to the reduction of the crime rate. The primary reason is that such a form of education could provide offenders with working skills that are quite essential for them when they return to the community. With fortified job prospects, law-breakers may therefore earn a living after leaving from the prisons and not be likely to commit crimes again. Another significant reason is that doing this can show offenders that they are still appreciated by society. By this way, they are likely to feel senses of humanity and community which prevent them from the feelings of loneliness, depression.
However, I completely disagree with the notion that education in prison is the most suitable method to tackle this problem due to some following reasons. It is irrefutable that this education is offers only for those who have committed crimes, so it is far less preventable value, compared to other stronger solutions. For example, a severe punishment such as a longer imprisonment might deter criminal acts by other people who have an intention to carry out a crime. Another important solution is raising awareness of individuals about crimes through lessons at schools or talk-shows which are organized by teachers, polices, particular rehabilitated prisoners. It is obvious that speaking from experience might have power impacts on minds of people, which is a more feasible way to hinder criminal acts.
In conclusion, although education in prisons has some benefits for offenders, I think that it is not the most appropriate mean to solve criminal problem.[3/10/2018, 9:10:32 AM] Cám ơn các bạn!
