In some countries, students must pay tuition for university and college. In some others, goverments pay it. Do the advantages of using government money for universities and colleges outweight the disadvantages?
There is an argue that whether students have to pay fess for post-secondary institutions or governmetns pay it. While there are some benefits of using government budget for universities and colleges, I would argue that it has more drawbacks.
On the one hand, there are a number of advantages of government money expenditure on post-secondary schools. First, since governments pay educational tuition for students, they can help poor students have a chance to attend higher education. As a result, the quality of workforce might be improved, which enhances competitive ability between countries around the world. Second, by reducing the financial burden of students, the governments allow students to concentrate entirely on study, which enlarges students’ academic performances. If students have to pay tuition by themselves, they may have to work part-time to earn money, which neglects their study.
On the other hand, I believe that the disadvantages of this proposal are even more considerable. Firstly, as students do not shoulder the responsibility to pay for their education, they are not likely to appreciate a opportunity to study. For example, students can skip lectures and do not complete their assignments, which leads to a waste of government’s money. In addition, since there are too many universities and colleges, governments has to spend a huge amount of money to support the policy. If the governments do not introduced the policy, they have more money to invest in essential fiels such as health care and public transport systems or health care.
In conclusion, while spending government money on universities and colleges has several advantages, I believe that its disadvantages are greater.
