Some people think that children should not be taught history at school, and schools should teach children subjects that are relevant to their later life. Do you agree or disagree?
Some people claim that schools should teach subjects related to children’s future life instead of teaching history. While it is true that children should be taught courses that are beneficial for their later life, I would argue that history is also necessary subject that they need to learn at school.
To begin with, there are several benefits of teaching subjects that are relevant to children’s later life. First, by studying those courses, children are equipped with the specialized knowledge to persue their career path. For example, in order to be doctors, children certainly need to acquire complex knowledge and be fluent in biology and chemistry theories. Second, since companies nowadays tend to place more emphasis on workers who have solid practical experience, those courses such as cooking or mechanics can help children prepare better for their work ahead, which paves the way for more employment opportunities for children. This would have a variety of positive impacts on the society as there would be fewer unemployed workers, which also means fewer crime cases.
However, I believe there are a number of reasons why schools should teach history for children. One of those reasons is that learning history can allow children to learn about cultures and traditions of their own nation. For instance, children in Vietnam have learnt that their ancestors had to fight fiercely with several foreign forces such as America or China to be the sovereign state, which helps them develop a sense of patriotism. In addition, by learning from human experience and wisdom, children can gain valuable lessons from the past. In fact, Thomas Edison gave us an inspriration example that success only come after work hard and persistence.
In conclusion, while it is true that teaching courses that are useful for children’s future life has some advantages, I belive that history should be taught for children at school.
