Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment. Only governments and large companies can make a difference. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Many people claim that only governments and large businesses play a vitally important role in improving the environment instead of individuals around the world. While it is true that the authorities and companies contribute significantly to enhancing the environmental issues, I would argue that individuals can also take some actions to improve the environment.
To begin with, there are several reasons why governments and companies can change the environment in a better way. First, since our burning of fossil fuels is increasing the greenhouse effect and making the Earth hotter, the governments can invest heavilly in solar and wind energy in order to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. This means that the governments might construct wind farms that make electricity in moutainous areas or the sea, close to land. Second, companies may try new technologies to recycle their wastes instead of disposing of them immediately into the environment. For example, some paper companies have used recycling machines to conduct the paper recovery process, which prevents them from discharging raw materials.
However, I belive individuals also have some steps to develop the environment. Primarily, as global warming partly stems from the increase in car and motorbike exhaust emissions, people can choose other forms of transportation such as bicycles or heavy rail transit systems for travelling. This would reduce a great amount of exhaust fumes. Additionally, by doing several simple actions such as recycling wastes or planting trees in gardens, people can assist the effort to alleviate environmental issues in the local community. This would have a variety of positive impacts on not only their health but also the global environment.
In conclusion, while it is true that governments and large companies are important to look after the environment, I believe that every individual also can protect the environment.
