Topic 6 (IP): Professional workers like doctors, nurses and teachers make a greater contribution to society and so should be paid more than sports and entertainment personalities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In today’s society, the contributions to the prosperity of the nation between professional occupations and leisure jobs should be debated. Some have advocated giving the highly qualified professions such as doctors, teachers high wages than actors or sport men. I completely agree with this notion.
On the one hand, people working in sport and entertainment fields have increasingly become more popular and attracted most attention of the public, which is likely to have negative effects on the development of young generations and the society in general. First, many children may slack off with their studies at school or even drop out of school because they spent most of their time on following or imitating their idols such as singers, actors or sport men. Second, most people ranging from blue-collar to white-collar workers pay attention to movies, entertainment or music programs during working hours in the workplaces. As a result, these lead to the reduction of the productivity and prevent the society from development and well-being.
On the other hand, the contribution of prestigious jobs should be over-rated and they deserve to be paid higher incomes by following reasons. It is an obvious reason that professional doctors or teachers have to experience a long time to be highly qualified at school. Long courses at universities take them a lot of time, effort and money, so they should be respected and paid rewarding salaries. Another main cause is that paying high salaries for these jobs is likely to encourage young generations to study hard to be qualified to attain these careers. If the government conducts this policy appropriately, the education background and social stability will thrive.
In conclusion, not only policy makers should conduct thorough researches and find out solutions, but individuals also need to change their awareness of different types of careers’ roles.
