In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing. What problems will this cause for individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of ageing populations.

The ageing population has long been a common tendency among developed nations. There are various problems behind this trend and several solutions should be proposed to solve these problems.

There are two primary problems caused of the increasing life expectancy. Firstly, there will be a shortage of young tradespeople while they are the core of any businesses. As a result, an economy which lacks qualified workers has to face adverse consequences such as higher labor costs, declining productivity and reduced competitiveness. Secondly, old folks have to encounter the loneliness which leads to serious public health issues. For instance, the most popular disorder happened to elder people is depression. In fact, without offsprings’ care and attention, seniors could not manage to control over all their health situations.

Some simple measures should be implemented to deal with the problems causes of ageing population. Developed nations can import young workforce in developing countries which enable them to not only minimize the labor cost but also maximize profits because average salary paid for workers from developing countries lowers than their domestic employees’s. For example, Japanese garment businesses hire low-skilled workers from India, Vietnam. In addition, governments can launch specific elder care services to ensure their life quality such as home care service, caregivers which services could assist seniors with daily activities.

In conclusion, the problem of the ageing population can be tackled by effective measures on a governmental level.
