TOPIC: Cycling is more environmentally friendly than other forms of transport. Why is it not popular in many places? How can its popularity be increased

There is no doubt that bicycle is an ideal vehicle in the campaign against environmental pollutions and greenhouse effects. Despite its benefits in environmental term, this kind of transportation is still dominated by others in most countries for several reasons, so potential solutions must be put into practice in order to popularize this vehicle.
To begin with, there are a number of explanations as to why bicycles are not widely used in the world, especially in metropolitans. The first reason is probably that cycling is quite time-consuming than other types of transportation. It is because the mechanism of this vehicle is mainly based on human physical strength, which means that the basically low speed of bicycle will be reduced considerably in poor physical conditions or adverse terrains for cycling such as steep hills. More importantly, the more vehicles on the road, the more traffic accidents may occur in which cyclers are more likely to get serious injuries. Therefore, it is dangerous to use bicycles in metropolitan with high density of traffic such as New York or Tokyo.
However, the popularity of bicycles can be improved thanks to practical methods. Firstly, authorities should established cycling areas in attractive-to-people places such as travelling spots or squares in order to boost the use of this vehicles. Additionally, cycling competitions is also a great initiative to raise consciousness of citizens about healthy and environmental benefits this vehicle may bring about. In this way, more people will find their interest in cycling and prefer this transportation to others. Last but not least, governments can contribute to the development of bicycles by financial aids for bicycle manufacturers in order to lower the price so that people can get access to this vehicle easily.
In conclusion, although cycling is still the subordinate transportation in many countries, its population can be increased partly thanks to abovementioned solutions.
