Some people think that cultural traditions will be destroyed if they are used as money-making attractions aimed at tourists. Others, however, believe that is the only way to save these traditions. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
It is sometimes argued that allowing travellers to visit cultural destination and considering it as a way to earn money might ruin a national’s tradition. While many suppose that action can bring negative effects, I hold a firm belief that it is the best way to reserve and develop distinctive tradition.
On the one hand, there are many convincing explanations to support why utilizing unique nation’s culture for tourism purposes can lead to the loss or damage in it. First and foremost, with a huge number amount of people setting foot on a place of attraction, environment and daily life of local residents can be disturbing. For instance, besides polite tourists, there are rude ones who are willing to caught littering in the streets or even they will turn into that place became a noisy destination. Secondly, nowadays various shops selling souvenirs that are often overpriced in the peak tourist seasons. As a result, cultural attractions gradually lose their real values and become places just concerning about profits.
On the other hand, people with a contrasting viewpoint maintain that encouraging visitors stopping by our cultural attractions provide advantages far outweigh the disadvantages it might have. Initially, by increasing in purchasing tickets can help the government having enough money to allocate to refurbish historical buildings and ancient traditional infrastructure. Another angle can be found is the fact that welcoming travellers to visit notable attractions can be an effective method to give wonderful national identity to foreign tourists, making people and a country to be more impressive in international friends’ eyes.
To conclude, although the issue of whether a country should accept using national outstanding traditions as places can generate greatly profits or not are raising a bunch of debates, I personally believe that we should balance tourism development and cultural protecting.
