One school of though is that life in major urban areas is becoming harsher. Although there is some truth to that statement, I personally advocate that cities’ citizens are enjoying an increasingly better life.
On the one hand, there are two aspects of major cities which are changing to worse, compromising the people’s living quality. First and foremost, all ove the world, most major cities are experiencing remarkably high population density which stems from the rapid population growth in developing countries and illegal migration in developed ones. As a result, not only do urban dwellers have to struggle with the escalation of property costs but aslo suffer from traffic congestion in rush hours. To be equally important, heavy working pressure in big cities is the culprit of stress, anxiety and depression, whilst constant degradation in quality of air and water induces the escalation in cases of cancer and allergy, which are seriously deteriorating municipal inhabitants’ health.
On the other hand, it seems to me that city life is easier than ever before thanks to quality services on offer and plenty of job opportunity. To commence with, it is often true that the best hospitals, the most prestigious schools, universities are usually located in metropolises; therefore, urban residents seem to ensure their safety when being accidentally afflicted with fatal illnesses or entitle their children to access to first-class education. Furthermore, being the economic nerve centre, metropolitan areas are potential places where big international companies set up further offices and branches, which triggers the likelihood that urban workers stand a decent chance to work for reputable institutions and land well-paid jobs.
By way of conclusion, I advocate that life in big cities, despite some issues, is getting safer, more convinience and having better career prospect.
