Topic: people should follow the customs and traditions when people start to live in a new country. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Many people believe that foreigners should adapt to the local customs and traditions when they come to reside in a new country. In my opinion, I completely agree with this view.
Newcomers certainly face difficulties if they do not follow the culture of the new place where they tend to live . One of the drawbacks is that recent immigrants might fall foul of the law. This is because there are a lot of differences between their motherland where they used to live and the new country. For example, in singapore, new immigrants can be fined strickly if they litter on the street or split gum in the public areas. Another downside is that it seems to be impossible for newcomers to blend into new environment if they do not respect the behaviour and customs of locals. For instance, an entrepreneur who wants to run business in the new country not only have a good grash of the laws but also in terms of winning and keeping their potential customers unless they can go out of the business.
There are many profits when foreigners accept the new traditions. Firstly, is that native residents can accept newcomers easier than those who do not follow these traditions. This is due to the fact that the cultural barriers can be removed and the mutual understanding gradually improve. Secondly, if newcomers face the difficulties, local people are usually willing to give them a hand. For example, students studying abroad usually have trouble with their new life but if they adopt the traditions and make friends with native people, most of the difficulties can be solved easier. In addition, during festivals or public holidays, they will feel like they belong to the new country and avoid social isolation.
