Chữa bài IELTS Task 1
* The two graphs show the main sources of energy in the USA in the 1980s and the 1990s.
* Write a report for a university lecturer describing the changes which occurred.
Write at least 150 words.
The two pie charts illustrate the changes in the percentage of major sources of power in the United States in 1980 and 1990. In general, fossil fuels are responsible for much larger proportions than those of artificial energy.
As can be seen from the graphs, although the biggest figure was always that of oil, which accounted for 42% in 1980, it dropped modestly to 33% in 1990. In comparison, hydroelectric power took the least number in both years, which levelled out at 5%. By contrast, the survey recorded a significant change in nuclear power. While the share of nuclear power in 1980 was 5%, which was equal to that of hydroelectric power in the same year, this ratio doubled to 10% in 1990.
When it comes to the other categories, there was a small shift in natural gas. Its percentage was 26% and 25% in 1980 and 1990 respectively. Meanwhile, coal experienced a similar growth to nuclear power, with an increase of 5% in 1990, which makes coal overtake natural gas to become the second position.
In summary, there was a tendency that fossil fuels were gradually replaced by man-made energy in this 10-year period.
