Development in technology has brought various environmental problems. Some believe that people need to live simpler lives to solve environmental problems. Other, however, believe technology is the way to solve these problems. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Over the past few decades, technology has been fostered in leaps and bounds, facilitating people in many walks of life. However, some adopt the view that the advent of hi-tech devices is the main culprit of environmental deterioration, so mankind should enjoy the life without technology like our ancestors. Meanwhile, I believe that it is technology which can be an effective solution to this knotty problem.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that our surroundings are significantly impaired by technology development. For the sake of human’s covenience, more novel contrivances are created by the efforts from scientists. Ironically, such innovations have considerably contaminated our habit in recent years. Plastic bags, for instance, which are non-biodegradable in some hundred years, are extremely detrimental to the environment. As a result, green containers such as banana leaves should be encouraged to protect our planet. If the ubiquitous application of technology can be reduced, environment quality will be certainly enhanced like that in ancient times.
On the other hand, from my perspective, technological advancement has enormously contributed to the improvement of environment from the new century. Ediable plastic bottles, invented by Indonesia, is really a breakthrough, which are oriented-environment novelties. Thanks to this invention, an amount of rubbish will dwindle in the near future. Equally importantly, intellectual energy, a wonderful discovery of technology, has gradually replaced harmful fossil fuels. Admittely, fumes from fuel-burning vehicles and factories are the roots of greenhouse effect, which will be solved soon by harnessing alternative power. Therefore, technology is the driving force which can eradicate evironmental crisis.
In conclusion, everything has double-edged impacts and applied science is not an exception. Notwithstanding its short-term negative influences on surroundings, technology will be the major key to environmental issues in the long run.
