Southland’s main exports in 2000 and 2017, and future projections for 2025
The bar chart gives the breakdown of three major exports from Southland in 2000, 2017 and future estimations for 2025. At the first glance, it is obvious that dairy products were responsible for the largest revenues until last year, cross-boundary travel is expected to become backbone industry in 8 years later.
In 2000, global tourism brought Southland approximately over eight billion pounds of revenues, which was the highest number among three fields. This service increased by around one billion pound in export in 2017, which reached nearly nine billion pounds, before being estimated to escalate to the peak of 10 billion pounds after the 25-year period. By contrast, meat products experienced a downward trend. From six billion pounds of revenues in 2000, its contribution to export turnover steadily decreased by 500 million pounds after 17 years. Continually, this figure will be projected to go through a same decline with previous years, with just five billion pounds in 2025.
Meanwhile, there are some ups and downs in sales from exporting dairy products between 2000 and 2025. Though being one billion pound less than revenues from cross-border tourism in 2000, that of dairy product rocketed to about 10 billion pounds in 2017, which was the best export last year.
