Many countries use fossil fuels such as coal or oil as the main sources of energy. However, in some countries the use of alternative sources of energy is encouraged. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
ANSWER:
The use of conventional fuels is the main cause of environmental pollution. As a result, some countries have invested in renewable energy instead of non-renewable fuels. Although there are some hazards in this new approach, I am convinced that the benefit overweigh the drawback.
On the one hand, alternative sources of energy are considered to be in infinite supply because it captured from the wind, sun, Earth’s heat and from small dams-unlike oil, coal and gas. Additionally, fossil energy is limited, and it is becoming scarce. That shortfall led to an inevitable rise in the price of fossil fuels, while there is no cost to the sources of fuels in renewable energy. What is more, alternative energy could empower millions of poor and vulnerable people who lack access to reliable, affordable and clean modem energy service.
Furthermore, alternative energy involves little or no pollution compared to those fossil fuels. Scientists blame the burning of non-renewable fuels for the release of carbon dioxide that stoke global climate changes, which in turn are intensifying droughts in some parts of the world, floods and storms in other, and the spread of tropical diseases to temperate zones.
However, there are also some existences of negative influence of renewable energy. For instance, many local communities oppose the installation of wind farm because they may affect the landscape and create too much noise from their generator.
To sum up, I consider that the government and the public should support the use of alternative energy sources, despite the safety concerns and other impact.
