In some countries, industries and businesses are encouraged by governments to relocate to outlying areas. I am convinced that the advantages outstrip the disadvantages.
It is undeniable that the trend brings about some disadvantages. Firstly, changing location is only brought up on the table when the company is in need to expand scale or find a new market. On top of spending a lot of money for researching, redesigning new place and changing company’s address in every material, it may result in losing current potential customers as well as current ones. For example, restaurant manager has to do some research and experiment tastes of residents to adjust menu suitably because of differences in local eating habit. Second, geography distant does take a time to move from city center to suburb. It goes against the rule in the business environment that time is of the essence and may become an obstacle with businessman when they want to schedule a meeting with their partners. Or simply, waking up a few hours earlier than casualties in the morning is a huge demotivated factor with office workers.
However, the disadvantages as discussed above are eclipsed by the advantages. To begin with, moving business facilities to regional help to contribute to the local’s economic development. This influence can be explained by the increasing demand for local labor will create more job for residents here. Plus, essential infrastructure in local such as schools, hospitals, transports…will be invested heavily by the government and private investors in relation to expected rising number of population in near future. As a result, resident’s quality of life may improve gradually. Furthermore, moving business and industrials will free big cities from congestions as well as reduce exhausted fumes during peak hours. All of which will bring back to urban people fresh atmosphere and quiet environment.
In conclusion, I believe that the pros outweigh the cons. However, the government needs to put effort more into upgrade public transport system from city to regional area in parallel with urban planning.
