The charts below give information about USA marriage and divorce rates between 1970 and 2000, and the marital status of adult Americans in two of the years.
The bar charts compare the number of marriages and divorces in the USA over the 30-year period, and the percentage of adults in America in marital status in 1970 and 2000.
It is clear that the rate of marriages was higher than that of divorces from 1970 to 2000. The figure for married Americans accounted for the highest percentage in two of the years .
In 1970 , the quantities of marriages was 2.5 millions , compared to 1 millions of divorced people . The number of marriages in 1970 had maintained until 1980 before decreasing to 2 million by 2000. While after rising to about 1.4 millions in 1980, the rate of divorces decreased to 1 million which equaled a half of marriage people.
The proportion of married Americans was 70% in 1970, compared to about 60% in 2000 . Whereas, a rapid increase of divorced people from 1% to 9% in 2000 . The percentage of adults who would not marry was approximate 15% and 20% in 1970 and 2000 respectively . In contrast , there was a slightly decline in the figure of widowed Americans which was around 8% in 1970 to 7% in 2000Attachments:
