The line graph illustrates the domestic recycling rates by region in the United Kingdom, France and Germany over a ten-year period starting from 2005.

Looking at the graph, it is immediately clear that the percentages of recycled waste in the UK and Germany witnessed an upward trend throughout the course while the figure for France experienced a downward trend.

In the first year, 2005, the household recycling rates in Germany registered one fifth, which is about 15 per cent lower than that of the UK. The percentage of recycled domestic rubbish in Germany increased significantly, exceeding that of France in 2009, standing at 37 per cent, and kept rising in the latter half of the period, reaching approximately three-fifths in 2015. The recycling rates of the UK experienced a similar trend, starting from about one third in 2005 before reaching 40 per cent in mid-2007. From 2007 to 2009, it leveled off at two-fifths before experiencing a surge of 20 per cent in the end of the period, the highest between the figures for three countries.

In the beginning, France registered one-half in the percentage of recycled waste, the highest among three countries. However, it dipped considerably and hit a low-point of 30% before increasing by 10% in the last year, 2015.
