Writing Task 2: Some experts believe that it is better for children to
begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary
school.
Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?People have different views about when children should start studying a
foreign language. I believe that it is really beneficial for children to
start studying a different language when they are young rather than wait
until they are grown up as a teenager. There are several reasons to explain why we should let our children study a
language early. Firstly, it’s the golden time to teach a child a foreign
language because they can study and remember very quickly. Also, they can
pronounce the second language correctly and if they are more exposed to the
native teachers, they can have a certain native accent. Secondy, studying a
language at this age can trigger an interest for a child to further pursue
their language study in the future, therefore they have more time to
practice their language. Lastly, a child who is prominent in a foreign
language would certainly have a profound foundation for their abroad study
and their career prospects in future. In contrast, letting a child study a foreign language at the primary school
can have some drawbacks. Many children at this age can only memorise a new
word just by listening and repetition rather than its written letters. In
addition, they may find it difficult to learn about a certain point of
grammar and structure. However, I believe that when they are get used to
speaking a different language besides their mother tongue, they will try to
overcome such disadvantages. In conclusion, it is obvious that children should learn a foreign language
at their early age because it is very advantageous.Attachments:
