* Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown. You should write at least 150 words.
The bar chart illustrates the data concerning the pastimes of Australian children aged 5 to 14. In general, boys do more of each activity than girls, except for arts and craft and watching TV or videos. Another visible trend can be seen is that while boys are more active than girls, both still prefer sedentary activities such as watching TV or videos.
The proportion of Australian youngsters in both genders watching TV or videos is equal, with 100 per cent. Bike riding is much more preferred by boys than girls. While boys’ involvement in this activity is approximately 78 per cent, the figure for girls is just under 60 per cent. Likewise, electronic or computer games are more attractive to boys than to girls in their spare time with a ratio of slightly over 80 per cent and 60 per cent respectively.
When it comes to skateboarding or rollerblading, this outdoor activity also appeals to boys more than girls. Whereas the percentage of boys is 39 per cent, only around 23 per cent of girls are interested in it. By contrast, the proportion of girls spending time on art and craft is greater than male counterparts, with about 59 per cent and 38 per cent respectively.
