Dear Mr. Johnson,
I am very sorry to say that I will not be able to join your farewell party this Saturday.
The reason why I cannot attend your party is because my mother is now in the hospital due to a heart attack just three days ago. Although her condition is stable at the moment, the doctors advised that there should be a family member to look after her all the time.
You know, I will remember all your funny jokes that brought so much laughter to our colleagues at work. More than that, I will never forget your positive attitude and energy towards every project of the company. You have been the role model for me to follow and that is why I have always enjoyed working with you.
Despite I cannot come to your party, I still want to say goodbye to you in person before you go. If you are free next week, would you like to meet me at the local coffee shop that we usually go to after work?
